As we step into a new year, there can be a lot of pressure around self-improvement. Although it can be important to mark the passage of time and celebrate progress, there's a lot of 'new year, new you' bullshit out there.
We're here to help you cut through the crap, and find softer forms of encouragement
Join us for three weeks of tailored guidance and motivation, to discover the transformative power of mindful movement in uplifting your spirits, and boosting your motivation.
First, set a personal goal for how many classes you want to attend.
Next, choose an intention for yourself, such as: 'build a consistent practice', 'develop strength', 'increase flexibility' or 'experience more calm in your body-mind'.
Then, over three weeks, our teachers will offer individual support, helping you develop a movement practice that's meaningful for you, based on your chosen intention.
At movement studios, it's common practice to run 'challenges'. These often involve pushing students to attend as many classes at possible, and making this a competition with display boards where everyone publicly records how many classes they attend.
This can be shame-inducing, and motivation research shows that strategies like this tend to have a negative effect on long-term habit development. Instead, it's healthier to find internal motivation for developing habits by keeping your personal values in mind, and finding moments of pleasure and social connection within activities.
At Soft Studio, we do things different by taking a radical enjoyment-based approach. We're anti-shame, anti-toxic-fitness-culture and pro-pleasure!
We don't care how many classes you come to or how high you can lift your leg, though we care deeply that you feel supported by us while you learn to love moving your body.
For our 'anti-challenge', you pick your own goals and will be welcomed into a community that gently encourages each other, and celebrates you for showing up in your own way!

At your first class, you'll be given your own private program card to record your chosen intention and class attendance goal. Throughout the Winter Warmer Anti-Challenge, you'll receive guidance from your teachers and warmth from your community. At the end of each class, mark off your attendance on your card to keep track of your practice.
